What is the difference between content controls and form fields

Tag to store our properties. Unfortunately the Word dev team limited Tag to 64 characters no idea why and the properties normally run well over 64 characters. Ok, so back to the root question. They can also format the tag and that formatting carries through to the data substituted for the tag when the report is generated. The question is, where we place these tags, that have their own Windward meaning, what do you think works better for a user - as a field or a content control. The concensus we are getting from our users is they really dislike the content controls and are very happy with the fields.

I think this is because of the weird stuff that goes on with what is selected as you are on or next to a content control. Keep in mind that users will never directly edit these objects - they should be a BLOB to the user. I hadn't thought of that - I guess that does make sense then that fields could make more sense for us than content controls.

You can locate basic form controls in the Controls group of the Developer tab. You will notice that there are different categories of controls: Content controls, Legacy controls, and Active X controls the latter two accessed by clicking the briefcase icon.

Each category type has its advantages and disadvantages and you should choose the category type depending on your purpose for using the form. Microsoft added Content Controls in but there remains much to praise about the old Legacy Form fields. Inserts a text box control, where users can enter data.
